It may not be necessary to centralize all high-volume sensor or image data. Where appropriate, the device or on-site edge layer can filter and anonymize data, sending only business-relevant events to the central system. Critical events can be processed in real-time, while analytical data can be processed through controlled batch streams.
Privacy and security should be considered from the design stage.
If camera, location, or device data that can identify individuals is to be used, the clear purpose, legal basis, information provided, access limits, and retention period must be defined. Wherever possible, counters and anonymous analysis methods that do not generate personal identification should be preferred.
IoT devices require unique identification, secure configuration, data protection, access control, software updates, and security status monitoring. Device security is an integral part of store network and ERP security.
Don't just generate alarms.
A sensor event must be associated with a responsible person, priority, task, maintenance log, or inventory process. Otherwise, numerous alerts will be generated, but no operational results will be achieved.
Use IoT data not as a technology showcase, but as a controlled operational input that improves store security, inventory accuracy, energy efficiency, and service quality.
