Reference System and Positioning

To describe any point or interval on a linear entity, a reference system is needed. At Minerva, this system is flexible and adapts to the specific language of your industry.

Fixed points are defined along the line: milestones, pole numbers, valve stations, junctions, manhole numbers, and polygon points. The system speaks the same language as the sector — KM 47 + 250 on the railway, Direk 118 on the power line, and Ek noktası E-23 on the fiber infrastructure.

Point and interval

Each marker is located either as a point or an interval . A speed limit sign is a point; a pavement renewal work area is an interval. An interval is defined by a start and end point.

Offset: deviation from the reference point.

In real life, nothing is exactly on the milestone. Therefore, position is expressed by the deviation value relative to the reference point.


Along the X Line
Distance along the direction of the line, before or after the reference point. 340 meters after the KM 27 marker.
Even upright
The distance perpendicular to the line's axis. The sign is positioned 3 meters inside the right edge of the road; right is positive, left is negative.
Z Height
Distance above or below the line. Culvert 1.2 meters below the road surface; bridge 6 meters above it.

The ability to use all three axes together ensures that the information sent to the field team is coordinates, not descriptions . The difference between “Somewhere to the right after the bridge” and “KM 52 + 340, 3 m to the right, 1.2 m depth” represents the time a team spends in the field.
