Inventory of Chemical Substances and Mixtures

In the chemical industry, laboratory management has a second task: managing product safety data . The basis of this task is that every substance and every mixture has a complete record of its identity and hazards. Without this record, neither classification, nor labeling, nor safety data sheets can be produced.

Things that must be included in the entry record

Identity data

  • Chemical names and synonyms
  • CAS number, EC number, index number
  • Molecular formula and molecular weight
  • Registration numbers (REACH / KKDİK), registration status
  • Purity, impurities, and additives.
  • Supplier and supplier safety data sheet

Physical and chemical properties

  • Appearance, odor, pH, melting and boiling point
  • Flash point, flammability limits, vapor pressure
  • Density, solubility, coefficient of distribution
  • Spontaneous ignition temperature, decomposition temperature
  • Viscosity, oxidizing and explosive properties.

Hazard data

  • Pest classes and categories
  • Harm (H) and precaution (P) statements
  • Pictograms and signal words
  • Harmonized classification information and notes
  • Estimated acute toxicity (ATE) values
  • Aquatic toxicity data and M factors.
  • Substance-specific concentration limits
  • Toxicological and ecotoxicological study summaries

Legal and logistical data

  • Restrictions, permits, and candidate list status.
  • Occupational exposure limit values
  • Transport classification (UN number, class, packaging group)
  • Waste code and disposal method
  • Storage compatibility class
Why so much detail?

Because all 16 headings in the safety data sheet and the entire label are derived from this data. The more complete the ingredient list, the more automated and accurate the generated documents will be. Incomplete ingredient data means manually filling in gaps for each new product; this means a renewed risk of error for each product.

The mixture record also contains composition information: which substance is present in which concentration range. This is the input for the classification calculation.
