For B2B customers, placing an order is only the beginning of the commercial process. Determining which warehouse, production facility, or supplier the product will come from; whether the order will be shipped as a single or partial shipment; and how the transportation method, delivery date, and cost will be determined are fundamental aspects of order logistics.

The digital platform should not only provide customers with information on whether something is in stock or not. A realistic delivery forecast should be created by considering current stock, reservations, expected deliveries, production capacity, lead time, and logistical constraints together.

The customer should be able to view the confirmed quantity, expected shipping date, quantity shipped, remaining order, carrier, and tracking information on a per-order basis. When an order is split into multiple shipments, the status of each shipment should be tracked separately, but the overall order view should be maintained.

Exception and delay management

Exceptions such as stock shortages, production delays, carrier issues, address discrepancies, or delivery refusals should be identified early. The system should generate tasks and alerts for responsible teams; the new date or alternative solution to be given to the customer should be recorded.

Standard electronic document exchange

For high-volume customers, documents such as orders, order responses, shipment notifications, and invoices can be exchanged via EDI or API. Shipment notifications help customers receive product, quantity, packaging, and shipping information into their system before physical delivery.
